India finds itself deep in the throes of ever-increasing energy demands, accelerating climate change, and an urgent need to rethink how energy is generated and consumed. As the world’s third-largest emitter of greenhouse gases and one of the fastest-growing economies, India must find a way to meet its soaring energy needs sustainably. The answer lies in renewable energy, and Jindal India Renewable Energy supports this green energy transition.
With a visionary approach to sustainable development and investments worth $2.5 billion over the next five years, JIRE is among the green energy companies in India focused on scaling solar and wind power projects that meet both environmental and economic goals. Let’s explore how we are driving the change to a cleaner, greener, and more energy-efficient tomorrow as a renewable energy company in India.
India has set ambitious targets to install 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, a critical achievement in its sustainable development agenda. To support the country’s mission, Jindal India Renewable Energy aims to generate 5 GW of power from renewable sources. This will include a blend of solar, wind, hybrid systems and Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy (FDRE) modes.
Our 5 GW target will involve developing projects that maximise energy efficiency while minimising environmental impact. By tapping into diverse renewable sources, we’re ensuring a stable and resilient power supply that can support India’s rapidly growing energy demands while keeping carbon emissions low. With this goal, we hope to set a benchmark for other green energy companies in India.
As a part of B.C. Jindal Group of Companies, we find ourselves in a fortunate position to build on Jindal India’s legacy in the power sector. Our existing Jindal India Power Plant in Odisha leverages thermal energy to generate 1.2 GW of power while achieving a Zero Discharge operation. In a bid to diversify our portfolio, we’re setting up a state-of-the-art solar equipment manufacturing unit.
By investing in this advanced manufacturing unit, we are not only positioning ourselves as a major player among solar and wind energy companies in India but also helping India reduce its reliance on imported solar technology. This facility will represent a new era in India’s solar energy capabilities, focusing on producing solar cells and photovoltaic (PV) modules domestically.
One of the biggest challenges that solar and wind energy companies in India face is ensuring a consistent power supply, especially when solar and wind resources fluctuate. At Jindal India Renewable Energy, we are addressing this issue head-on by investing in battery energy storage systems (BESS). These systems play a key role in stabilising the energy grid as they store excess energy generated during peak production periods and release it when generation dips or demands increase.
We are all set to establish a 1 GWh battery pack assembly line by 2025, using Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) chemistry. By 2027, we will also foray into battery cell manufacturing with a 5 GWh capacity. By investing in BESS, we are not only expanding our portfolio but also contributing to grid stability and renewable integration. This initiative is instrumental in helping India build a resilient and future-ready energy infrastructure.
To further reinforce our role as a renewable energy company in India, we are also integrating multiple renewable sources, particularly solar and wind, to develop hybrid renewable energy systems. Hybrid systems help combine the strengths of different power sources to provide a more consistent and reliable energy supply. Solar energy is most efficient during the day, while wind power can be harvested around the clock, especially at night. By combining these sources, JIRE aims to overcome intermittency issues that are common with standalone solar or wind power plants.
India’s journey towards a sustainable, energy-efficient future depends on innovative, proactive companies like Jindal India Renewable Energy. By setting up advanced manufacturing units, investing in hybrid and FDRE systems, and pioneering battery energy storage solutions, they are cementing their position as a leader among green energy companies in India. With each new project, we are trying to pave the way for a future where green energy powers every corner of the country.
